Enhancing search results through Vertical databases

Posted by Troy Perkins on 31 July 2007

Search engine tools enable websites to optimize the rank for better search results. Vertical databases are search engines that enable the search of certain sites that are based on a particular category. These search engines only include specialized searches or the particular keyword that the user had entered thus giving specific search results. Often there are various content developers who cannot find adequate keywords to enable the listing of keywords in the webpage. Through vertical databases websites can optimize search engine results with tools such as Topix.net, Google Blogsearch and Del.icio.us. These websites enable search engine tools for better ranking on various search engines.

Vertical databases focus only upon a specialized keyword which enables the user to zoom in to the search result on the first page of the search engine itself, thus saving the user’s time. As vertical databases focus on specific search results that the user enters, they can be used for searching individuals on various blog sites and community portals. In fact the search can be limited to people only on these blog sites.

Blog sites such as Topix.net, Google Blogsearch and Del.icio.us post various reviews on articles which feature certain topics. For bloggers who want to write on a particular topic, the selection of the adequate topic is important so that they would write with the right keywords and therefore allow the optimization of the blogs that they have posted. In fact blogs have become a form of social networking where people with similar interests post their reviews on a particular website that features their topic of interest. This makes the search results of the websites narrow down, which enables the user to search for a specific blog topic.

Google Blogsearch is the recent trend that highlights the importance of searching for blogs, and which enables the user to search for results with greater speed and accuracy. As a blog search engine, Google has offered Internet users to search for their favorite blogs by just typing the right keywords thereby enabling them to search for blog articles that they want to search for.

Topix.net is another blog website that features prominently for searching the right blog that a user is looking for. Blog topics are divided into various sections, which include current affairs, sports, fashion, etc. that allow the user to gain specific information on the topic. An interesting feature of this site is that it enables users to talk the forums, read a blog and edit the news that is featured on the website.
Lastly, Del.icio.us has offered the user to join specific forums that feature their topic of interest. Unlike posting the blog and moving on to the next article, Del.icio.us has enabled the user to update blogs through specialized information which features prominently on the website.

After spotting a few examples of specific blog sites, one can understand that information on the Internet has become specialized, as users want to search for specific information on a topic, something which can only be done only through vertical databases.
