The truth is that humans are influenced by product, video and any type of 5 star rating system associated with internet content.  The problem is that most systems require an account to be created to vote.  The truth lies in a the systems that don’t require an account and double opt-in.  The real question or reason for accounts and double opt-in is control of these systems.  Don’t believe the rating you see unless they don’t require multiple cycles of interaction to vote.
